Oh Well

Oh I had grand plans for this Thanksgiving Holiday. I was going to take so many pictures. I had everything all planned out. Things change. Wednesday morning I headed outside with my camera in hand and the boys following behind me to the back of my in law's house. They have a sidewalk that goes around to the back of their house. Have you ever heard that pregnant people are not very graceful. Multiply that by ten for me. My foot stepped off the edge of the sidewalk and I fell, hit my knee and destroyed my camera. As I was laying in the grass in agony, Noah was by my side telling me he would go get dad. It was actually kinda sweet the way he could tell that I was hurt and actually cared. If it had been his brother he probably would have been laughing at him. Timmy comes off the back patio and starts asking me what happened. I can't really talk at this point. I was very busy trying not to cry. Then he wants me to move my knee. IS HE CRAZY. Anyway after rolling around in the grass a while and then searching for the batteries that fell out of my camera (they were very expensive batteries, what can I say everyone knows how cheap I am). I went inside to put ice on my knee. That is when I realized that my camera is dead. I have only had this camera about a year or two. Obviously they did not make it to withstand a big pregnant woman falling with it and hitting the concrete. I couldn't really walk very good the rest of the day. I tore my wind pants. This makes me very sad I have only had them about 15 years. They were perfectly good pants and the major thing that I loved about them is that I could still fit into them. Elastic Waste. Timmy took real good care of me. He got the hugous (is this a word) band aid ever and put medicine on my knee and then got me some ice for it. I am a real baby when I am hurt. I am proud to say I did not cry, even if my camera was broken. So much for taking lots of pictures on the beautiful holiday. I pretty much complained about the whole camera thing for the rest of the weekend. Everytime there was a picture perfect moment.

My sister in law wanted to pick up some black walnuts. This was hilarious. Obviously she is a city girl. I go get the four wheeler to run around under this one tree that is just covered underneath it with walnuts. I wanted some of the shell to come off so they won't take up as much room in the buckets and to keep our hands a little cleaner. I had told my sister in law that the field didn't have much cow poop in it so their shoes should be fine, she disagreed. Really if the cow poop is dried out it should not count since it really won't mess up your shoes. It's only when you step in the fresh green piles. hahaha She had never seen a black walnut before (that is amazing). They were everywhere and she would walk around looking for I guess that perfect nut. We were all laughing at her. One of her comments were "I guess the cows don't like these" Isn't that funny? I don't think that she reads my blog but even if she does that is just to funny not to share. She is a good sport. We picked up about 10 gallons and then let the kids play on the four wheeler and dirt bike. My nieces, I don't think had ever rode either. The youngest one was a little scared of the whole situation. We had a good time but the best part was getting to kid about the whole walnut situation.

I went shopping with my mom and sisters on Friday. I got up at 4 a.m. That was crazy. I did get a lot of my shopping done. We went to Harrison (this made me thankful for all that is available in Fayetteville) and then we went to Branson. We came home about 5:30 p.m. I was extremely tired but then we had to head to my Aunt's house for another Thanksgiving meal. We got home to Farmington about 10:30 last night. After being gone since last Tuesday I was so happy to be in my own bed. My legs can barely move they are so sore from walking all day yesterday. Needless to say I am a little out of shape. hahaha Well that was my exciting weekend, what happened in yours?

Eating Boogers

I found this article on the Internet after my discussion with Andrew this morning (see last post). Can you believe that this action could be encouraged. I guess I got bored. I don't think I will let my kids know about this, they don't need any encouragement. My kids are pretty healthy though. I woooooonnnndddeeeerrr.

In the scientific and medical communities, the technical name for using one's finger to extract boogers is rhinotillexis, and doing so compulsively is termed rhinotillexomania. The act of eating the resulting harvest is called mucophagy. There is an Austrian doctor who has gained notoriety by advocating the picking of one's nose and the consumption of the resulting bounty, particularly in children. Dr. Friedrich Bischinger, a lung specialist working in Innsbruck, would have us believe that people who pick their noses with their fingers are healthier, happier, and more in tune with their bodies. His argument stems from the notion that exposing the body to the dried germ corpses helps to reinforce the immune system. The good doctor feels that society should adopt a new approach to nose-picking, and encourage children to take up the habit. Dr. Bischinger has been quoted as saying (in an Austrian accent), "With the finger you can get to places you just can't reach with a handkerchief, keeping your nose far cleaner. And eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body's immune system." He then added, "Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do. In terms of the immune system the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine.""Modern medicine is constantly trying to do the same thing through far more complicated methods, people who pick their nose and eat it get a natural boost to their immune system for free."This theoretical boost comes from the fact that boogers are chock full of bacteria which your body has shuttled out by way of mucus. Mucus lines many of the pathways into the body's delicate innards, and creates a surface which is like flypaper for bacteria and other particles. Once stuff becomes mired in the goo, the loaded mucus is slowly escorted out by tiny hairs called cilia which sweep the undesirables back out the door. In regards to the nose, when this exiting mucus becomes dry, boogers are produced. What our good Dr. Bischinger doesn't tell us is that nose mining can be a dangerous pursuit. If the skin inside the nose is broken while picking away, the veins in that region are situated in such a way that sometimes an infection can migrate inward to the base of the brain and inhibit the blood flow, a serious condition known as cavernous sinus thrombosis. This condition can also be caused by squeezing zits on or around the nose. Because of these risks, the triangular area of the face from the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose is referred to in the medical community as the "danger triangle of the face."Risks aside, can the immune system really be reinforced by introducing germs into the gut via boogers? While the unpleasant notion may have some scientific merit, it is not based on any formal studies. For this reason, I propose a clinical study where each test subject is given real boogers or placebo boogers for a period of several months, and each group's susceptibility to disease is cataloged during that time. Only then can we know with any certainty.

What Do You Say

This was Andrews and I conversation in the car this morning.

Andrew "Mom, why can't I eat my boogers"

Me " It's gross, its like dried up snot"

Andrew "I like my snot"

Me "I am sure it is full of germs"

I mean really is there any medical reason that one shouldn't eat their boogers. I know it is gross and basically its all the dirt that has went up your nose, but I am sure that Andrew eats much worse stuff off of his hands during the day.

Not Me Monday

Well Monday is here again and I thought it might be fun to do not me Monday again.

I would never let my child leave the house dressed as such. Yes he is wearing a red checkered shirt, a blue tie, camo pants, boots and the light saber as his accessory. Of course while out his dad wouldn't convince him not to wear the tie into chic-fila because he would probably be "uncomfortable"
He wanted to make sure I took a picture of the beautiful tie. Isn't it lovely.
I would never take pictures while my children are fighting over the football. It is a pretty fair fight Andrew is pretty tough.

Yes that is his foot being used to push his brother off of him.

I would never allow my son to dig holes in the yard so that he could copy the dogs looking for moles. And of course I would discourage him from putting his face down in the hole to sniff around.

I would never take pictures of my oldest son while he is waiting for his dad to get home so they can play football. Of course this wouldn't make this child angry either.

I would never go over to a friends house and make homemade tortillas and leave the mess for her to clean up. A good friend would never leave while the kitchen was a huge disaster.

I would never set on the couch while pealing 10lbs of potatoes for a KDP meal. I mean that would just seem extremely lazy. And I would never lick my fingers multiple time while beating the potatoes with extra butter, sour creme, and creme cheese. That would just be insanitary. I of course would not eat a majority of the sugar cookies that were just baked while beating the potatoes either. Really sugar cookies and mashed potatoes don't go together.

I would never have a chair designated for a dog in my room. Really who would allow a pet to have their own chair that stinks and only she would set in.

Kids - Part 2

Breakfast this morning while we are eating our pop tarts

Andrew "Mom, how do the babies get out"
Me "Remember I told you last night. You go to the hospital and it comes out there."
Andrew "But how does it come out"
Me ....silence.....silence He is still looking at me "God made a special place for them to come out"
Andrew "Where is it at"
Me .....silence....silence....He is still looking at me patiently waiting for an answer. "The bottom half of your body"
Andrew (Big Smile)
Andrew "Mom is this jelly inside this pop tart"

I wonder what we will talk about at supper tonight????????

Kids

Andrew mind has been working overtime these days. Here is just a few of the examples.

On the way to Karen's house:
Andrew "Mom have you ever thumb wrestled with dad?"
Me " I don't think I have"

After being picked up on Wednesday
Andrew "Mom you don't want to be around when babies come because it is messy"
Me "Who told you that?"
Andrew "Claire"
Me - silence

At supper tonight
Andrew "Mom how do they get the babies out?"
Tim "That's a good question, mom"
Me "You go to the hospital and then you get to take the baby home with you"
Noah "They cut you open and then sow you back up with stitches, mom have you had stitches"
Me - "No" Then silence

Does anyone have any suggestions for fake looking stitches. I have a feeling I will need to come home with some or I am going to have to answer a lot of questions.

Hosea

I finished reading the book of Hosea this morning. Here are a couple of passages that really stuck out to me.Italic

Hosea 12:7 The businessmen engage in wholesale fraud. They love to rip people off! 8 Ephraim boasted, "Look, I'm rich! I've made it big! And look how well I've covered my tracks: not a hint of fraud, not a sign of sin!" 9 "But not so fast! I'm God, your God! Your God from the days in Egypt! I'm going to put you back to living in tents, as in the old days when you worshiped in the wilderness. . . .12 Are you going to repeat the life of your ancestor Jacob? He ran off guilty to Aram, Then sold his soul to get ahead, and made it big through treachery and deceit. 13 Your real identity is formed through God-sent prophets, who led you out of Egypt and served as faithful pastors. 14 As it is, Ephraim has continually and inexcusably insulted God. Now he has to pay for his life-destroying ways. His Master will do to him what he has done. (the Message)

Does this not sound like our stock market. All those people that made themselves rich through fraud and misleading the investors.

Hosea 13:2 And now they're back in the sin business again, manufacturing god-images they can use, Religion customized to taste. Professionals see to it: Anything you want in a god you can get. Can you believe it? They sacrifice live babies to these dead gods - kill living babies and kiss golden calves! 3 And now there's nothing left to these people: hollow men, desiccated women, Like scraps of paper blown down the street, like smoke in a gusty wind. 4 "I'm still your God, the God who saved you out of Egypt. I'm the only real God you've ever known. I'm the one and only God who delivers. From the Message

How this reminded me of where are country is at. We make our gods exactly how we want them to be. There is no black and white with our gods only grey. There are no consequences to our sin just happenings. Women and men don't really suffer any emotional consequences from adultery or abortion (at least that is what we are told.) Let's not teach abstinence because children are going to be having sex. Let us make church only for convenience and what looks good to those around us not for coming together to worship the one true God. Let us not teach those lessons that might offend someone - Adultery, tithing, discipline, abortion, pornography, honesty. If these don't fit our lifestyle lets just not talk about them.

There is still hope because we serve a merciful God. Here is how the books ends.

Hosea 14:1 O Israel, come back! Return to your God! You're down but you're not out. 2 Prepare your confession and come back to God. Pray to him, "Take away our sin, accept our confession. Receive as restitution our repentant prayers. 3 Assyria won't save us; horses won't get us where we want to go. We'll never again say 'our god' to something we've made or made up. You're our last hope. Is it not true that in you the orphan finds mercy?"
4 "I will heal their waywardness. I will love them lavishly. My anger is played out. 5 I will make a fresh start with Israel. He'll burst into bloom like a crocus in the spring. He'll put down deep oak tree roots, 6 he'll become a forest of oaks! He'll become splendid - like a giant sequoia, his fragrance like a grove of cedars! 7 Those who live near him will be blessed by him, be blessed and prosper like golden grain. Everyone will be talking about them, spreading their fame as the vintage children of God.
8 Ephraim is finished with gods that are no-gods. From now on I'm the one who answers and satisfies him. I am like a luxuriant fruit tree. Everything you need is to be found in me." 9 If you want to live well, make sure you understand all of this. If you know what's good for you, you'll learn this inside and out. God's paths get you where you want to go. Right-living people walk them easily; wrong-living people are always tripping and stumbling. (the message)

God is still on his throne and his love is everlasting.
