God Was There

Lately God has been dealing with me and my love for the lost.  It seems that every Sunday something hits me like a ton of bricks about "what am I doing to share the love of Jesus".  It seems that we get in our little comfort zone and it is just so easy not to do anything.

A few months ago an idea started forming in my mind.  Would it not be neat to open our church facility to the community on an afternoon and let the children come play in a safe environment for a few hours.  Of course I tossed this idea around with Karen because that is what I always do.  I knew I would need someone to kind of back me up if this was to take shape.  I then spoke to our pastor.  He was for it as long as I got enough people to help.  Then I sent out and email to all the people on my church list to see what the interest would be.  I had about 7 or 8 women willing to help with the event.

Some of the women were able to help with snacks and some were able to actually help supervise the children.  We decided to have the KidZone open from right after school till 5:30 to allow parents enough time after they got off of work to pick them up.  When planning I thought it would be awesome if we had 50 kids show up.  Oh me of little faith....  We had approximately 65 children.  What the coolest part was that 80% of these  children were not from our church.

The whole time I was just amazed of how God took care of everything.  I really was concerned about the transportation issue and it really wasn't an issue.  The school dropped off kids riding the bus from one of the schools and we transported all the other ones in our personal vehicles.  We had crafts, snacks, and lots of just playing.  I think the kids had a great time.  None of them wanted to leave when their parents showed up.

Here are some pics of the event.

My sweet hubby even took off early to help out with the event.  I think he felt sorry for me or it could have been me begging him that made him want to be there.   Even Nannie got to help by keeping Ti man while we were up there. We had quiet a few others that gave of their time and energy to make this event a success.  We had ladies that volunteered to do the cookies, someone donated the drinks,  we had volunteers for the craft stations, we had volunteers just to help supervise.  These ladies and Timmy made this event happen.  And most importantly they showed Jesus' love to children.

Scottie preached this morning in church about actually witnessing to those in our city.  What better way to have an impact in our community than by loving on their children.  I had one of the ladies that helped with the event come up to me today and say count her in for the next time we do it.  It actually was fun to see the kids having such a good time.  Hopefully next time we will have even more volunteers.  I am hoping we can build relationships with these kids and they will see Jesus in everthing we do and say.

Karen and I have been praying for this event for a while and God  proved himself.  How can you have 65 children all in the same building for 2.5 hours and have no major issues.  God was there!

p.s. if you would like to help with another even like this just let me know.  you will be blessed.
